Rigging a hammock at home: why we say no

What a ceiling hook is actually holding, and what to do instead.

Aerial yoga practice

Every week someone asks which hook to buy for the bedroom ceiling. The short answer is none, and this guide explains why.

The load is not your body weight

A person inverting on a hammock generates dynamic loads of several times their body weight. Domestic ceilings in Indian apartments are concrete slabs of unknown reinforcement; a chemical anchor can hold, or it can pull out with a chunk of plaster, and you cannot tell which from below.

What studios do differently

Studios rig from steel beams or engineered anchors rated for dynamic loads, inspect them on a schedule, use two points per hammock and log every change. The safety standard describes the minimum.

What to do instead

Freestanding aerial rigs exist and are safe when assembled correctly on a flat floor. Most people are better served by a studio pass. Use the directory to find one near you.
